Gift Basket For Boyfriend

My niece asked me if it's alright to give a gift basket for boyfriend. Actually i don't know since i never done that myself. But then new generations are more liberated nowadays so i should say that there is no big deal on doing so. In my time, always the boyfriend has something special for their girlfriend, never should a girl will give something which only means that you are putting yourself down. I have no idea why is that though since i see no reason why shouldn't the girl give something special to the boy, it should be equal.
